Trend Alert: How Artificial Intelligence is Shaping Food & Beverage Innovation

Work

AI can make tasty recipes, too. With the fast adoption of AI this year, many brands are using AI to not only produce the products, but also to create them.

In last year’s Food Trends report, we looked at artificial intelligence via robots learning to produce food. This year, we see the evolution of AI to have a say in the ingredients and flavors put into products. We call it “AI-Powered Options” and it’s a trend in our 2024 Food & Beverage Trend report

BEHIND THE TREND

AI has rapidly transformed numerous companies and brands, with many turning to it to produce results and develop products that would traditionally take weeks or even months. While AI cannot physically taste the food it recommends, training these systems can significantly boost productivity and generate cost savings for businesses in the food and beverage industry.

THE TREND IN ACTION

Coca-Cola, Olam Food Ingredients, and Beck’s Beer are embracing artificial intelligence to innovate within the food and beverage industry. Coca-Cola launched Coca-Cola Y3000, the first beverage flavor co-created with AI and humans, as part of its Coke Creations initiative.

Similarly, Olam Food Ingredients utilized AI to develop a range of trending flavor pairings for its deZaan cocoa line, featuring Asian-inspired tastes like lychee, miso, matcha, yuzu, mochi, and spicy chili.

Meanwhile, Beck’s Beer made history by creating the world’s first beer and marketing campaign entirely crafted with AI, featuring a unique blend of water, malts, hops, yeast, and artificial intelligence. Together, these brands showcase the transformative power of AI in developing new products and experiences.
